URG'S 2011 RACE SCHEDULE!!

CLICK ON IMAGE FOR LARGER VIEW!!
Lot's of inspiration out there for this one with everyone making racing plans for 2011. GOOD LUCK figuring it all out and try to make your choices wisely and with a clear head. You don't want to find yourself at the start of a race you really wish you hadn't signed up for like "The URG's" did; )

GLACIAL PACE!

CLICK ON IMAGE FOR LARGER VIEW!!

OK I must admit that Sarah Palin's new TV show "ALASKA" inspired this comic. Seeing her snowshoe over an Alaskan glacier and then climb up the face of a mountain really made me like her much more then I thought possible; )

URG Strikes a "PIGEON POSE"?!

Click on Image for Larger View!!

Lately it seems that yoga poses are popping up everywhere. Fitness instructors are slipping yoga into their core and strength classes and massage and physio-therapists are sending clients home with yoga poses to help stretch and rehabilitate muscles. URG is holding a "pigeon pose" which stretches the hip and glute muscles to name a few.

There is still alot of controversy concerning the benefits of yoga and just how stretched and limber a runner should be. Personally I use yoga poses for core strength and to keep my left and right side balanced flexibility wise.

SPRINGS & WINGS

Click on image for larger view!!
Today's inspiration...Joe Montana Super Bowl hero endorsing "Sketcher's Shape-ups".

I just don't get why Joe Montana wants to be a part of selling a gimmicky shoe to the masses of people who are desperately grasping at any straw to "shape-up" and get fit. Sure, the shoes are probably no more harmful then the high heels many woman have already enslaved their feet to and lets face it walking around in 5 inch stilettos will build some serious calf muscles. However the muscle enhancement derived from wearing "Shape-ups", stilletos or any sort of footwear is just the bodies way of adapting to an unnatural way of walking which in turn can cause serious problems for other parts of the body ie. feet, back, knees.

The body is amazing the way it tries to compensate for whatever we humans decide to strap on our feet but in the end that overworked, "toned" muscle derived from wearing those ridiculous shoes is probably not good for much more then keeping one from toppling over in the silly things in the first place.

DO NOT RUN!!!

CLICK ON IMAGE FOR LARGER VIEW!!

"DO NOT RUN"?? Hey did URG actually say that? This is probably the only time URG would utter those words to others and then actually take the advice himself. Also DO NOT crouch down like URGal, this makes you appear small like prey. It is human nature to run or hide when confronted with a threat which is why it is very important to know how to deal with all kinds of wildlife encounters before they happen.
Thanks to Sue for inspiring this comic with her blog about a close encounter with a cougar. She was also kind enough to e-mail me that she liked,  "URG Gets Compressed". I hope she likes this one also although she may not like the fact that she is the first girl in the upper left leading the retreat ; )
NOTE: All the information contained in this blog was gathered from various web sources (e-how, wikihow) and I am not an authority on the subject. Please do your own research and RUN SAFE!

LOST URG'S

Just a bunch of old URG's that never saw the light of day and perhaps deservedly so.

DIALOGUE PLEASE!

I am sorry but todays comic has no dialogue as I couldn't quite make out URG's conversation.
Is it his daughter on the phone? Perhaps it's his wife or a client, a bill collector or his Mom?
I don't know, but if you think you know then please leave a comment or send it to  ultrarunningguy@gmail.com .

Thanks to everyone for all the GREAT URG dialogue. You are all WINNERS ; )

- Honey, can you bring me some TP. I'm in a non-deciduous forest and there's no leaves.
- Did the Bruins win?
- What? You want race results from the 5Peaks race?? I sorry...Me no speak English!

GPS APP

This comic was inspired by "Lakewood's" recent blog about his iPhone GPS App and an old blog of Derrick's I kept tucked away in a few brain cells in the back of my head about his cheap alternative to "SPOT" tracking.

Runner's Retirement Savings Plan

Sara inspired this comic when I bumped into her picking up yet another pair of shoes
and she giggled that I was going to make a comic of the encounter.
