Out Too Fast...The Comic and the Contest!

If you haven't seen the comic "Out Too Fast" already then it means you either haven't gotten around to purchasing Bryon Powell's new book, "Relentless Forward Progress : A Guide to Running Ultramarathons" or you are just a slow reader and haven't come to page 178 yet. So for those of you who haven't seen it you'll find a preview of that page below plus two chapters of the book to preview here.

I bought Relentless Forward Progress for various reasons, but the first reason was a 24 hour urban endurance event I was running for the 2nd time. Bryon's tips about heat and running a non-trail event was extremely valuable. I ran more miles than I did the year prior and ran them quicker. Now onto my next goal!

I like Bryon's section about coaching, and the benefits of working with a coach.

I like RFP. The sections surrounding training schedules for ultras were probably the most useful part of the book for me. I haven't been able to find much information online about how to structure training for ultras. I've just been modifying my past marathon schedules.

I bought the book to soak up as much info as I can about ultras. Running my first one in Sept. I liked the training plans, although I didn't follow them to the 'T'. But I used them as a guide.

Everything from not going out too fast to remembering not to think about the finish, just the next AS, to remembering that if you get down, it's only temporary and soon you'll be up again (peaks & valleys), was all useful information. I just hope I can remember all of it when I'm out on the course!
